The first phase: Discovery
The first phase of all life coaching is all about discovery. Yet the truth is you will never stop discovering. As as you move forward, you will continue to add to and build on this road of discovery. In this phase, your life coach asks you personal questions about you for the purpose of having you reveal what is inside you that you may not really see. You will open up to your coach to divulge the key ingredients that make you tick in order to unravel the mystery of you.
Once you reveal your inner thoughts and motivations – those things you had previously not recognized or fully understood – your coach will reflect them back to you. S/he will become your mirror to describe to you what you have told her. Through this “mirroring” process you will discover the main ingredients that make up who you are today. Those include:
Your passions
The ones you know about, those you suspect but are not sure of, and those that have been hidden within you that need to be revealed in order for you to reach for your dreams.
Your self-imposed obstacles
What you do not want to do – the opposite of your passions. Those things that stop you from getting where you want to go.
Your beliefs and values
Your spirituality, morals, boundaries and integrity points. Learning what your beliefs and boundaries are so that you will stay true to yourself as you move into your future.
Your talents, gifts and experiences
The ones you know about, those you suspect you have but are not sure of, and those that have been hidden within you that can make the difference in reaching your goals.
Your priorities
Those things that are most important to you in your career, your family life, your relationships, and for your future.
How long does this “discovery” take?
This process of discovery will take several meetings to accomplish because there is a lot there to unravel. But will be worth it because the end result is that you will become the world’s foremost expert on Y-O-U! The biggest mystery in the world is the mystery of ourselves.
The main reason life coaching is so popular, so valuable, and continues to grow so rapidly is because life coaches help people discover themselves in such a short time with such accuracy in a supportive and confidential environment.
Self Discovery is a very important goal for most people.
People spend billions of dollars each year in one form or another to achieve self-discovery. We all want, and need to know about ourselves for a host of different reasons. For some it is to change careers or increase income, for others it is to discover what it is that would make us truly content in the world, and for others it is the need to understand why we do what we do. When we understand ourselves better, we make wiser
Life coaching is about reflection and discovery.
A person must look into a mirror to see his or her face. You life coach will be your personal private accurate, supportive, nonjudgmental, and objective mirror. You will see yourself through the mirror of your own life coach who will help you see your future through the reflection of who you really are today.
