There is a great saying by Seneca that should be a huge wakeup call for everyone: “If a man knows not what harbor he seeks, any wind is the right wind.”
Sadly, this quote is indicative of many people. They live their lives reacting to whatever happens to them rather than proactively planning their todays and tomorrows based on personal values, desires and goals. They are blown around like a feather in the wind, landing whenever the wind dies down in a place they didn’t expect or want to be.
Evaluating who we are, what we know, what we want, and how to get there is the beginning of living your life on purpose. Take the time to sit down and really look at your life, who you are, what you want your life to be, the dreams you have or gave up, and decide to make your tomorrows no accident.
Start today by sitting down, thinking through and answering these questions on a sheet of paper (or on your computer journal):
- List at least 10 things that make you special
- List at least 20 personal achievements and successes (even if it’s as simple as learning your colors!)
- List at least 20 things you are good at or can do well (it may be something like following directions)
- List 10 exceptional qualities or unique things about you
- Write at least one particularly attractive physical feature – even if it’s nicely shaped eyebrows!)
Now read this list to yourself every morning – OUT LOUD – for a week.
If you don’t believe in yourself, you cannot reach for a dream!
